Ukraine and Uzbekistan cancel permits for freight transportation

Ukraine and Uzbekistan have agreed to liberalize bilateral and transit freight transportation. Ukrainian carriers will be able to work on this route without special permits and will not depend on established quotas.

The corresponding protocol was signed on September 30 by Minister of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk and Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilhom Mahkamov. This was reported by Kalashnyk.

The new regime will apply to both freight transportation directly between Ukraine and Uzbekistan and transit trips. Previously, companies had to obtain permit documents for such transportation, and the ability to operate on the route depended on their available number.

According to Kalashnyk, the cancellation of permits should reduce administrative procedures and simplify the organization of international road transport. For Ukrainian companies, this also eliminates the risk of shortage of permits when planning trips.

The liberalization of the route is happening against the background of restructuring of logistics between Ukraine and Central Asia after the start of the full-scale war. Due to the change of traditional transport routes, Ukraine is developing alternative routes and gradually expanding the list of countries with which freight transportation is carried out without permits.

According to the minister, in 2025, trade turnover between Ukraine and Uzbekistan amounted to about $315 million and grew by 14% compared to the previous year. The government expects that the simplification of road logistics will contribute to further increase in trade between the countries.

Ukraine already has a liberalized regime for freight road transport with dozens of countries, including European Union countries. The agreement with Uzbekistan extends this system to one of the important directions of Central Asia.
