Family of ex-minister Galushchenko rented an apartment in Geneva for 4.5 million UAH per year - investigation

The ex-wife of former Energy and Justice Minister Herman Galushchenko, along with her children, lived in a 220 square meter apartment in Geneva throughout 2025. The annual rent for the property exceeded 85,000 Swiss francs - about 4.5 million UAH, or approximately $9,000 per month. The apartment's address was established by journalists from the "Skhemy" (Schemes) project of Radio Svoboda.

The apartments are located on the Quai Gustave-Ador near Lake Geneva, in the Eaux-Vives district. The building, constructed in the early 20th century, is listed as part of Geneva's architectural heritage.

The fact of using the apartment became known during the verification of Halushchenko's declaration by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). According to the NACP, in the ex-minister's declaration upon dismissal, signs of unreliable information totaling over 55.5 million UAH were found. After the verification, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) began a pre-trial investigation under the article on declaring unreliable information.

The verification materials stated that Halushchenko's ex-wife Olha Bohdanova reported living in the Swiss apartment during 2025. Halushchenko himself explained to the NACP that after the divorce he did not know about the rental of this property and allegedly learned about it only in 2026 from the materials of the criminal proceedings.

"Skhemy" also found Bohdanova's reviews on Google Maps about establishments near the building, dated 2023-2024. Journalists consider this an indirect indication that the family could have regularly been in this area even before 2025. If a similar rental cost is assumed for 2023-2026, the expenses could reach about 20 million UAH, but this is precisely a calculation by journalists, not an established amount of actual payments.

Next to the apartment is also Bohdanova's architectural bureau. In 2023, she registered in Geneva a company B.A.G. Sarl, whose activities include architecture, interior design, furniture and art trade, event organization, and consulting.

Halushchenko is a suspect in the NABU and SAP "Midas" case. In February 2026, anti-corruption bodies notified the former energy minister of suspicion of money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. According to the investigation, more than $7.4 million was transferred to the accounts of a fund managed by the suspect's family, and another more than 1.3 million Swiss francs and 2.4 million euros were transferred to the family in Switzerland. Part of the funds, according to NABU, was used for children's education. Halushchenko denies involvement in criminal activity; his guilt has not been established by a court.
