Emergency power outages introduced in several regions of Ukraine

In some regions of Ukraine, emergency power outages were introduced on the evening of September 30. The restrictions were a consequence of numerous Russian attacks on energy infrastructure during the day.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and NPC Ukrenergo.

The Ministry of Energy noted that due to damage to energy infrastructure, the situation in the power system remains difficult. To stabilize it, emergency supply restrictions had to be applied in parts of the country.

Emergency outages differ from scheduled hourly outages: they cannot be precisely scheduled in advance. The duration of restrictions depends on the state of the power system, so consumers are advised to monitor operational messages from their distribution system operators.

The situation worsened throughout September 30. Earlier in the morning, Ukrenergo reported new blackouts due to Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in Kyiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

Emergency restoration work began at damaged energy facilities wherever the security situation allowed. At the same time, air raid alerts continued in some regions during the work.

Later, emergency restrictions had to be expanded. In particular, in Kyiv, DTEK reported the introduction of emergency shutdowns at the command of Ukrenergo. In the capital, regular outage schedules are not applied during such restrictions.

However, the cause of the problems was not a shortage of electricity due to a sharp increase in demand. According to Ukrenergo, on the morning of September 30, electricity consumption was even lower than the previous day. As of 09:30, it decreased by 2.1% compared to the same time on September 29.

The company attributed the decrease in consumption mainly to clear weather in most regions of the country. This ensured more efficient operation of household solar power plants and reduced the amount of electricity that consumers drew from the common grid.

Despite this, the consequences of Russian attacks required the application of emergency measures. Energy workers urge Ukrainians who currently have electricity to use it sparingly and not to turn on several powerful appliances at once.

The timing of the cancellation of emergency outages is not announced in advance. Restrictions will be adjusted depending on the state of the power system and the progress of restoration work.
