US President Donald Trump said that the Iranian authorities "won't last long" if they do not do "something very right and smart." The statement came amid an actual deadlock in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran and mutual preparations by the sides for possible new escalation.

Speaking on October 1 during a speech in Denton, Texas, about the prospects for ending the conflict with Iran, Trump said that the resolution, in his opinion, will come "very soon."

"One way or another, this will end. Either they will do something very right and smart, or they will not last long. Frankly speaking, I would not like to see it, but they will not last long", - said the US president.

Earlier that day, while talking to journalists after arriving in Texas, Trump also said that the situation with Iran will end "very quickly" "one way or another." He claimed that Tehran is under strong economic pressure, and its military capabilities are significantly weakened.

A new threat was voiced after another unsuccessful attempt to reach an agreement between the US and Iran. As Axios reports, mediators from Qatar tried to achieve a compromise, but the sides made almost no progress, since neither Washington nor Tehran was ready to retreat from their key demands.

According to the publication, early in the week the White House still expected possible progress. However, after the negotiations reached a deadlock, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the Iranian delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, to leave the United States. At the same time, Qatari mediators continue contacts with both sides.

In parallel, Tehran is preparing for a possible renewal of large-scale military actions. As Reuters reported, citing three senior Iranian officials and a source familiar with the discussions, Iran is developing a larger-scale and harsher version of the response in case of a new major American attack.

Iranian military are considering the possibility of expanding the list of targets, although, according to the agency, no final decisions have been made yet. At the same time, Tehran is not closing the diplomatic channel, but Reuters sources assessed the probability of a quick compromise with the US as low.
