Dollar rate approached an important mark before the weekend
For Monday, October 5, the National Bank set the following official rates: - US dollar – 44.9857 UAH (+0.1524 UAH to the official rate for Friday, October 2); - euro – 50.5333 UAH (-0.1642 UAH to the official rate for Friday, October 2).
Rates are set at 16:00 on October 2 and reflect the following trends:
1. The halt in the dollar's growth on the international FOREX currency market had a significant impact on the sentiment of buyers of non-cash currency and on the Ukrainian interbank currency market. The first half of the trading session passed in a narrow range of 44.96-45.00 UAH; there were no buyers willing to buy dollars more expensive. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.9910 UAH. After 13:00, the National Bank began actively conducting currency interventions, and quotes decreased to 44.92 UAH on the "bid" position. The average transaction price by the end of trading decreased slightly, but was significantly higher than on Thursday, so the National Bank raised the official dollar rate for Monday by 15.2 kopecks. At the same time, the official rate again came close to the psychological level of 45 UAH.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market on Friday attempted a correction after a sharp drop the day before and managed to rise to 1.1285 dollars. The reason for the dollar's weakening (and, as a result, the euro's growth) was the publication of monthly employment data in the US: the figures came out significantly worse than forecast, which led to a sell-off of the dollar against other world currencies. At the time of fixing, the euro was being sold at 1.12332 dollars – 74.8 points lower than on Thursday (1.1308 dollars). Therefore, despite the increase in the official dollar rate, the NBU lowered the official euro rate for Monday by as much as 16.4 kopecks.
Transport collapse in the capital had a whimsical effect on the cash currency market: many clients were unable to buy the required amount of currency today, as they physically could not reach the sellers. In the conditions of a shortage of hryvnia, capital operators were forced to reduce the selling rate of cash "American". By the evening, the dollar in Kyiv fell by 8 kopecks, to 44.80 UAH. In other cities, prices also went down: in Dnipro – by 5 kopecks, in Kharkiv – by 6 kopecks, and in Odessa – by 10 kopecks at once. And only in Lviv did the price of cash dollars practically not change.
The beginning of October violently affected the non-cash currency market, but the cash market hardly felt changes. According to the information from the "Kurs Ukrainy" portal, many clients of wholesale exchange offices significantly reduced the volume of operations. According to operators, this is a sign of stagnation and deteriorating business conditions, which leads to a decrease in the need for cash currency for purchasing imported goods and components.
