Embassies of four EU countries refused to leave Kyiv despite Russian threats
The embassies of Germany, Italy, Spain, and Sweden in Ukraine stated that they continue to work in Kyiv despite the threats of the Russian Foreign Ministry against foreign diplomats and citizens.
The diplomatic missions issued nearly identical statements, emphasizing that together with other heads of missions in Kyiv they viewed Moscow's threats with concern.
"Russia must comply with the Vienna Convention and norms of international humanitarian law. We remain in Kyiv", the statement of the German Embassy reads.
The same position was publicly expressed by the embassies of Italy, Spain, and Sweden. All four diplomatic missions emphasized that they continue their work in the Ukrainian capital.
Earlier, the European Union Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, also stated that all EU member state embassies remain in Kyiv despite Russian threats.
Separately, Poland and Estonia confirmed the continuation of the work of diplomatic missions in Kyiv.
Russian threats come amid intensified attacks on the Ukrainian capital. The Guardian previously wrote about the situation in Kyiv and the reaction of foreign diplomats to Russian strikes and threats.
