There Are Significantly More New Private Entrepreneurs in Ukraine Than Closed Ones
In Ukraine, 222.3 thousand new individual entrepreneurs (FOPs) were opened in the nine months of 2026, while 155.6 thousand entrepreneurs ceased operations. Thus, the number of new businesses exceeded the number of closed ones by 66.6 thousand.
This is evidenced by data from the Unified State Register, analyzed by Opendatabot.
The number of new FOPs compared to the same period last year has hardly changed. At the same time, the number of closures decreased immediately by 27%, which ensured a significant net increase in small businesses.
The most active month of this year was September - then Ukrainians registered 27.4 thousand new FOPs. At the same time, compared to last year, more new entrepreneurs were in January, March, April, and May, while in the other five months their number decreased.
The most new entrepreneurs were traditionally registered in Kyiv - 27.3 thousand. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 22.3 thousand new FOPs appeared, in Lviv - 17.2 thousand, Odesa - 16.7 thousand, Kyiv region - 16.5 thousand.
Retail trade remains the most popular sector for one's own business. Since the beginning of the year, it was chosen by 60.3 thousand new entrepreneurs - more than a quarter of all opened FOPs.
In second place was computer programming - 16.7 thousand new registrations, followed by wholesale trade with 16.6 thousand. Another 10.7 thousand entrepreneurs each started work in education and public catering.
Most FOPs were closed in Kyiv in nine months - 19.5 thousand. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 14.9 thousand entrepreneurs ceased operations, in Odesa and Kharkiv - 11.5 thousand each, in Lviv - 10.2 thousand.
The negative balance remains only in three frontline regions. In Donetsk region, the number of FOPs decreased by 1120, in Kherson region - by 397, in Luhansk region - by 203.
In the other 22 regions, new entrepreneurs exceeded those who stopped working. The largest net increase was recorded in Kyiv - 7751 FOPs. Next are Dnipropetrovsk region with an increase of 7333 entrepreneurs, Lviv region - 6963, Kyiv region - 6510, and Odesa region - 5143.
