The National Bank of Ukraine sold $1.31269 billion on the foreign exchange market from September 28 to October 2 and did not purchase foreign currency. The volume of sales has exceeded $1 billion for the 12th consecutive week.

This is evidenced by data from the National Bank of Ukraine on the results of foreign exchange interventions.

Compared to the previous week, the NBU significantly increased currency sales. In the period September 21-25, the regulator sold $1.16843 billion, so the volume of interventions increased by $144.26 million, or roughly 12.3%, over the week.

The series of weeks with sales exceeding $1 billion began in mid-July. For September 14-18, the NBU sold $1.23179 billion – that was the tenth consecutive such week. The next week, sales amounted to $1.16843 billion, and for September 28 – October 2 – $1.31269 billion. Thus, the current week has become the twelfth consecutive one with interventions over one billion dollars.

Over all 12 weeks of this series, the National Bank sold a total of about $14.05 billion.

Since the beginning of 2026, the NBU has sold $38.77 billion on the foreign exchange market, while it bought only $2.3 million. In fact, the regulator's foreign exchange operations this year are almost entirely directed at selling foreign currency.

Foreign exchange interventions remain one of the key instruments of the NBU to balance supply and demand on the interbank market under the managed exchange rate flexibility regime.
