Another major Kyiv data center shuts down after Russian attack
Kyiv data center "Omega Telecom" shuts down after a massive Russian attack. The company continues to restore communication channels and internet access on backup sites. This was reported by "Omega Telecom".
"We have to state the fact: after a massive enemy attack, the Kyiv data center "Omega Telecom" ceases operations", - the company said.
At the same time, the operator continues to restore communication channels and access to the Internet on backup sites. The company did not report loss of customer data.
This is already at least the fourth major Kyiv data center that in recent weeks has reported ceasing operations due to the consequences of Russian attacks.
At the end of September, after repeated strikes, DC|Cosmonova ceased operations. The company stated that the destroyed site would not be restored, and part of its services would be moved to another infrastructure.
On October 1, the "Parkovyi" data center announced a complete shutdown of the Kyiv site. Due to the scale of damage, restoration of services there became impossible, but customer data was successfully deployed on reserve capacities in the European Union.
Later it became known about the destruction of the dline.ua data center. Its physical site was lost, but customer data and services were moved to reserve infrastructure. Thus, "Omega Telecom" became at least the fourth major data center operator in the capital to announce the cessation of its primary site's operations.
Russian strikes also damaged the digital infrastructure of the largest Ukrainian mobile operator. As reported by Kurs, two "Kyivstar" data centers were damaged, one of them was completely disconnected.
Data Center Dynamics previously reported damage to the infrastructure of a number of Ukrainian data center and telecommunications operators during Russian attacks. The series of strikes showed the critical role of backup sites and geographical duplication of infrastructure: in several cases, physical loss of a data center did not lead to data loss or final shutdown of customer services.
