Slump in metallurgy dragged down industrial production in Ukraine - State Statistics Service data
Industrial production in Ukraine in August 2026 decreased by 6.1% compared to the same month last year. The decline accelerated significantly: in July, industry was only 1.7% behind last year's level.
This is evidenced by updated data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
The cumulative result since the beginning of the year also worsened. In January-August, industrial production volumes were 1% lower than in the same period of 2025. According to the results of January-July, the decline was only 0.3%.
Compared directly with July, industrial production in August decreased by 7.4%.
The sharpest drop was recorded in metallurgy. The volume of metallurgical production in August was 48.6% less than a year earlier. Compared to July, metallurgical production decreased by another 35.2%.
According to the results of January-August, metallurgy lagged behind the corresponding period last year by 13.3%.
In the broader category, which besides metallurgy itself includes production of finished metal products, the decline in August amounted to 22% year-on-year.
Production in the textile industry, clothing and leather goods also decreased significantly - by 22.6% compared to August 2025. Since the beginning of the year, this sector has decreased by 11.6%.
In the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, production in August was 10.8% lower than last year. Over eight months, the decline in this segment amounted to 12.7%.
The mining industry in August reduced production by 8.8% year-on-year, although according to the results of January-August it still maintained growth of 1.3%. In the manufacturing industry, the August decline was 3.9%, while over eight months production remained 0.9% higher than last year.
At the same time, a number of industries continued to grow in August. Production of computers, electronic and optical products increased by 17.6% year-on-year, and since the beginning of the year - by 22%.
Production of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations in August increased by 6.5%, chemical products - by 5.1%, and mechanical engineering - by 3.4%.
The food industry also remained positive: production of food products, beverages and tobacco products in August increased by 1.3% compared to last year, and in January-August - by 2.9%.
The State Statistics Service notes that starting from March 2022, statistics are compiled without taking into account the territories temporarily occupied by Russia and part of the territories where hostilities are ongoing or were conducted.
