Ukraine lost part of its rapeseed market in the EU but increased supplies of oil and meal
In the first 13 weeks of the 2026/27 marketing year, Ukraine significantly reduced rapeseed supplies to the European Union, while sharply increasing exports of its processing products - rapeseed oil and meal.
This is evidenced by European Commission data on oilseed trade for the period from July 1 to September 27, 2026.
During this time, EU countries imported 336.05 thousand tons of rapeseed from Ukraine. In the same period of the previous marketing year, supplies amounted to 599.9 thousand tons. Thus, the volume decreased by approximately 44%.
Ukraine's share in total rapeseed imports to the EU decreased from 59.2% to 38.6%. At the same time, Ukraine remained the largest supplier of this crop to the EU. It was followed by Australia with a share of 21.2%, Canada - 14%, Moldova - 10.8%, and Serbia - 7.3%.
Overall, the EU imported 871.54 thousand tons of rapeseed in the first 13 weeks of the season - 14% less than the 1.013 million tons a year earlier.
In contrast to raw materials, supplies of Ukrainian rapeseed oil to the EU grew sharply. From July 1 to September 27, they reached 96.82 thousand tons compared to 44.58 thousand tons in the same period last season - an increase of approximately 2.2 times.
Ukraine accounted for 75.6% of all rapeseed oil imports to the EU. A year earlier its share was 60.6%. Total imports of this product by EU countries increased by 74% - to 128.04 thousand tons.
Even faster, Ukraine's role in the rapeseed meal market changed. The EU imported 63.65 thousand tons of this product from Ukraine compared to 34.03 thousand tons a year earlier, which corresponds to an increase of approximately 87%.
Ukraine's share in rapeseed meal imports to the EU increased from 18.8% to 68.6%. Meanwhile, total rapeseed meal imports into the EU, on the contrary, almost halved - to 92.75 thousand tons compared to 180.64 thousand tons a year earlier.
Thus, at the beginning of the new marketing year, the structure of Ukrainian supplies of the rapeseed segment to the EU changed noticeably: exports of the oilseed itself decreased, while supplies of its processing products increased sharply.
