Ukraine's energy infrastructure was one of the key targets of the massive Russian strike on the night of October 7. In total, Russia used about 70 missiles, a significant part of which were ballistic, as well as attack drones.

This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to him, Russia tried to inflict the most painful and demonstrative strike, but Ukrainian air defense managed to intercept only part of the means of destruction.

"Russian ballistic missiles remain the biggest challenge. And air defense packages are now a vital necessity for us", - said the president.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is looking daily for additional interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. These systems remain one of the key means of combating Russian ballistic missiles.

During the attack, hits were recorded on enterprises, warehouses, transportation and other infrastructure facilities in several regions. As previously reported by Kurs Ukrainy, the consequences of the strikes were recorded, in particular, in Kyiv, Poltava, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. Residential buildings were also damaged, and there are dead and wounded among civilians.

In particular, in Pryluky a missile hit a residential multi-story building. Commenting on the consequences of the attack, Zelensky said: "Today the Russian army 'gave' Putin the destruction of a residential building in Pryluky in Chernihiv region as a birthday present".

The Russian Ministry of Defense, for its part, stated that during the night attack it used ground-, sea- and air-launched missiles as well as drones. The ministry claims that the targets were enterprises of the military-industrial complex in Kyiv and a number of regions, as well as port and ship repair infrastructure of the Odesa region.

At the same time, the specific claims made by the Russian side about the designation of individual struck enterprises and the results of the strikes are not independently confirmed. Ukrainian official sources also reported damage to civilian, industrial, warehouse and residential infrastructure.

The new attack continues a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy sector ahead of the winter period. Against this backdrop, Kyiv increasingly names replenishing missile stocks for Patriot as one of the top requests to Western partners.
