Ukrainians began to choose electric cars much less often among used cars imported from abroad. In September 2026, the share of electric cars in this segment of the car market dropped to 18% versus 29% a year earlier. At the same time, gasoline cars strengthened their positions and accounted for more than half of imports.

This was reported by the association "Ukrautoprom" following the results of September.

During the month, Ukrainians for the first time registered 21.5 thousand used passenger cars brought from abroad. This is 8% less than in September 2025.

The largest share among imported cars with mileage was made up of cars with gasoline engines — 52%. A year ago, they accounted for 45% of this market.

The share of electric cars most noticeably changed, dropping by 11 percentage points over the year — from 29% to 18%.

The structure of imports of used passenger cars in September was as follows:

  • Gasoline cars — 52% versus 45% in September 2025;
  • Electric cars — 18% versus 29%;
  • Diesel cars — 16% versus 18%;
  • Hybrids — 11% versus 5%;
  • Cars with LPG — 3%, no change compared to last year.

Thus, alongside the decline in the share of electric cars, Ukrainians began to choose hybrid cars more actively. Over the year, their share among imported used cars more than doubled — from 5% to 11%.

At the same time, the share of diesel passenger cars decreased by 2 percentage points, while cars with gas cylinder equipment remained unchanged.

The average age of used cars that received their first Ukrainian registration in September was 8.7 years.

The most popular model among imported passenger cars was the Volkswagen Golf. During the month, Ukrainians registered 954 cars of this model.

The top ten most popular imported used cars in September:

  1. Volkswagen Golf — 954 cars;
  2. Volkswagen Tiguan — 807;
  3. Audi Q5 — 658;
  4. Skoda Octavia — 655;
  5. Nissan Rogue — 626;
  6. Renault Megane — 559;
  7. Tesla Model Y — 512;
  8. Nissan Leaf — 484;
  9. Tesla Model 3 — 468;
  10. Volkswagen Passat — 409.

Despite the overall decline in the share of electric cars, three electric cars made the list of the top ten most popular models — Tesla Model Y, Nissan Leaf, and Tesla Model 3. The most popular among them was the electric crossover Tesla Model Y.

A similar trend is also observed in the Ukrainian new car market. As previously reported by "Kurs Ukrainy", in September the share of electric cars among sold new passenger cars decreased from 33% to 9.2% compared to the same month last year.

At the same time, the share of gasoline models among new cars increased from 31.2% to 39.3%, and hybrids — from 20.3% to 31%.

Thus, a decrease in the share of electric cars has been recorded in both segments of the Ukrainian car market — both among new cars and among imported cars with mileage. This refers to different indicators: sales of new passenger cars and the first registration in Ukraine of previously used cars brought from abroad.

"Ukrautoprom" did not specify the reasons for changes in the structure of imports of used cars.
