Dollar maintains stability amid low interbank activity
Today the USA celebrates Columbus Day, so banks and stock exchanges are closed (official holiday). Because of this, on the interbank currency market on Monday there is trading under the TOM scheme (with settlements tomorrow) and, as a result, reduced activity of both sellers and buyers of non-cash currency: as of 11:20, Bloomberg recorded transactions totaling only 35 million dollars. Transactions are going in a narrow range of 44.91-44.93 UAH.
The euro on the interbank currency market of Ukraine on Monday is trading in a narrow range of 50.31-50.33 UAH on the “bid” position - about 8-11 kopecks lower than last Friday. On the international FOREX currency market, the euro is making sharp movements between the marks of 1.1184 and 1.1217 dollars, but no clear trend is visible yet. The market has not yet understood how to react to Trump's statements made last Saturday regarding agreements on supplies of Russian diesel fuel to the USA.
Cash dollar prices in the capital have not changed since last Thursday: on Monday, wholesale exchange offices in Kyiv also sell the dollar at 44.93-44.95 UAH. At the same time, cash currency market operators report to the “Kurs Ukrainy” portal about difficulties in currency exchange due to power outages and reduced customer activity. In regional centers, sales start from 45.00 UAH: this is how dollars are sold in Chernivtsi and Dnipro. In Lviv, wholesalers ask 45.04 UAH for a dollar, in Odesa, Vinnytsia and Lutsk – 45.05 UAH, in Khmelnytskyi – 45.15 UAH.
Ukrainian banks by 11:00 sell the dollar at prices ranging from 44.99 UAH in western branches of Bank Lviv to 45.45 UAH in Zaporizhzhia's Metbank. As for the euro, at the moment it can be purchased cheapest at 50.55 UAH in Ukrgasbank. As we assumed last week, euro selling prices have stopped falling.
