The British Food Standards Agency (FSA) has ordered the withdrawal from sale and recall of chicken eggs of the Ukrainian company "Yasensvit" after the detection of the dangerous bacterium Salmonella Enteritidis. The strain of the bacterium found in the product is linked to 36 cases of salmonellosis recorded in England during 2026.

The corresponding warning was issued by the British regulator on October 10. It concerns eggs of the producer Yasensvit Ltd from Kyiv.

All eggs with the marking 3UA1012066 are subject to recall regardless of size, expiration date and name on the package. The British authorities urged consumers not to consume such products, and trading enterprises to immediately stop selling them.

Eggs could be sold under other trademarks

The FSA explained that Yasensvit's products were mainly supplied through wholesale dealers to catering enterprises. Part of the eggs could also reach small retail shops.

At the same time, the British regulator emphasized that the eggs covered by the warning were not sold in large supermarket chains.

The peculiarity of the recall is that the Ukrainian eggs could have been repackaged by British companies and sold under other names. Therefore, the FSA recommends checking not the information on the outer packaging, but the code printed directly on the shell.

Enterprises that received eggs with marking 3UA1012066 are ordered to stop using and selling them, remove leftovers from trade and organize recall of already sold products.

Such eggs are also prohibited from being sent for further food processing. Consumers are advised to dispose of them safely at home.

Detected salmonella strain linked to disease cases

The British Health Security Agency (UKHSA) examined samples of Ukrainian eggs as part of the investigation into the salmonellosis outbreak associated with imported products.

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of the Salmonella Enteritidis bacterium. Experts also conducted whole genome sequencing to determine the genetic characteristics of the pathogen.

According to the results of the study, the detected strain is linked to 36 cases of salmonella infection in England during 2026.

However, the British authorities made an important clarification: this strain is genetically different from the strains associated with another salmonellosis outbreak currently being investigated in the country.

Thus, the research results indicate a connection of the detected pathogen with cases of infection, but do not mean that all diseases within the current investigation were caused by Yasensvit eggs.

The investigation is ongoing. The FSA cooperates with local control authorities and international partners to establish the circumstances of the dangerous product entering the British market.

Yasensvit is part of one of the largest egg producers of Ukraine

LLC "Yasensvit" is part of the Ovostar Union group of companies - one of the leading Ukrainian producers of chicken eggs and egg products.

The group sells eggs under the trademark "Yasensvit" and processed egg products under the brand Ovostar. The company operates both on the Ukrainian market and abroad.

According to Ovostar Union, the group's products are supplied to more than 50 countries worldwide. Great Britain is one of the important foreign markets for Ukrainian egg exporters.

At the same time, the British warning refers to a specific production code, not to all products of the trademark "Yasensvit". There are currently no grounds to assert that other batches of eggs from this producer or products sold in Ukraine have similar contamination.

The British notice does not specify the total volume of products to be recalled and their value. Information on possible financial losses of the Ukrainian producer is also absent.
