Russia Massively Attacks Railway in Five Oblasts: Ukrzaliznytsia Reports Significant Damage
On the night of October 14, Russian forces launched massive strikes on Ukraine's railway infrastructure. Facilities in five oblasts came under attack. As a result of the shelling, disruptions to power supply and train movement occurred, and the company's material losses are assessed as substantial.
This was reported by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia", on his Facebook page.
The massive wave of Russian strikes covered Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil oblasts.
According to Pertsovskyi, Russia continues to systematically attack the Ukrainian railway, trying to destroy depots, repair facilities, stations, terminals, and rolling stock.
During the night attack, energy infrastructure facilities necessary for railway operations were damaged. Repair crews promptly began restoring power supply.
In addition, due to obstacles on railway lines, train movement was temporarily restricted. To ensure transportation, Ukrzaliznytsia employees organized alternative routes.
Certain restrictions arose at the capital's railway hub. Due to the threat of ballistic missiles, train movement was temporarily halted for safety reasons.
As Pertsovskyi reported, after the threat decreased, delayed trains began to depart gradually along their routes.
"The capital hub was stopped by a ballistic threat, and now trains that were held for safety reasons are departing one by one", the company's head said.
Despite the extensive damage, there were no casualties during the night attacks on railway infrastructure. According to Pertsovskyi, workers received advance warnings about the danger and managed to evacuate.
"The key thing is that everyone was warned in advance, evacuated clearly, and went through the night without injuries or casualties," he emphasized.
At the same time, material damage to Ukrzaliznytsia is significant. The company has not yet disclosed the exact cost of damaged property and the extent of necessary restoration work.
According to the UZ head, railway workers began eliminating the consequences of the strikes already on the morning of October 14. The main task of repair crews is to restore damaged infrastructure as soon as possible and ensure stable train movement.
Passengers are urged to be understanding of possible delays caused by security restrictions. The company emphasizes that temporary suspension of movement during air threats is necessary to protect people.
