Russian strike halts gas production facility of Naftogaz in Poltava region
On the night of October 15, Russian troops attacked gas production infrastructure of Naftogaz Group in Poltava region. A drone strike damaged technological equipment and caused a fire at the facility. Operations at the enterprise have been suspended.
This was reported by Serhiy Fedorenko, acting CEO of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
According to him, during the attack, employees were in shelter, so there were no casualties among the personnel.
"Employees were in shelter at the time of the attack, none of the staff were injured. Assessment of consequences and extent of damage is ongoing at the site", - Fedorenko said.
The company has not yet specified how seriously the equipment was damaged, how long the shutdown will last, and whether it will affect overall natural gas production volumes.
Earlier, the head of Poltava Regional Military Administration Vitalii Diakivnych reported that Russian drones hit two industrial enterprises in Poltava and Myrhorod districts. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. The names of the enterprises were not specified by the regional administration.
This is not the first attack on Naftogaz gas production infrastructure in recent days. On the night of October 12, a Russian jet drone struck a company facility in Kharkiv region. A fire also broke out then, and critical equipment was damaged.
In addition, on September 22, Russian forces launched at least five strikes with ballistic missiles on an oil and gas complex facility in Poltava region. Naftogaz reported that the targeted equipment had not been operating for a long time due to previous damage. The new hits caused critical damage that effectively made restoration of the facility impossible.
Systematic strikes on gas production enterprises create additional risks for domestic natural gas production in Ukraine ahead of the heating season. Meanwhile, the company is still assessing the scale of production losses from the latest attack.
