Navy announces destruction of six Russian fighter jets with Neptune strike
The Ukrainian Navy reported the destruction of six Russian Su-34M fighter-bombers as a result of a missile strike on the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Voronezh Oblast, Russia. Flight support equipment was also damaged, and a fire broke out on the base's territory.
The results of the operation were reported on October 15 by the press service of the Ukrainian Navy.
According to the military, the strike on the Russian airfield was carried out on the night of October 15 using the Ukrainian coastal missile system "Neptune".
"As a result of the strike, six Su-34M bombers were destroyed. Technical equipment for supporting aviation flights was also destroyed, with repeated detonations and a fire recorded on the airfield's territory", - the Navy's statement said.
The Ukrainian military noted that information about the consequences of the attack is still being clarified. Independent confirmation of the destruction of all six aircraft through satellite imagery is not yet available.
The Su-34M is a modernized version of the Russian frontline bomber Su-34. These aircraft are capable of carrying several guided and high-explosive bombs simultaneously, as well as various types of missiles.
The Russian army actively uses Su-34s for strikes with guided aerial bombs on positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and on frontline settlements. Such aircraft are an important component of Russian tactical aviation.
The Navy emphasized that the destruction of the bombers and ground equipment weakens the aviation potential of the Russian forces and limits their ability to use tactical aviation in the respective areas of the front.
Overnight, Russian local Telegram channels reported explosions and a large fire near the Borisoglebsk airfield. Photos and videos of the glow over the military facility appeared online. The exact results of the attack were unknown at that time.
The Borisoglebsk airfield has repeatedly become a target of Ukrainian strikes. In particular, in July 2026, after another attack, a fire was recorded on its territory. The airfield is used for basing and servicing Russian combat aviation.
The cost of the destroyed aircraft and the total amount of damage inflicted on the Russian army have not yet been specified by the Ukrainian side.
