Ukraine and Moldova are discussing the acceleration of fuel transit, increasing electricity import capabilities, and natural gas transportation. The parties are preparing a bilateral document that will determine further cooperation in the energy sector.

This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal following a meeting with Prime Minister of Moldova Vasile Tofan on October 14.

One of the main issues was speeding up fuel supplies to Ukraine through the territory of Moldova. In particular, the parties discussed reducing queues of tanker trucks at the border and simplifying procedures for carriers.

According to Shmyhal, the goal is to ensure prompt transportation of petroleum products, which is especially important during preparation for the winter period and amid Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in the gas and electricity spheres. Ukraine and Moldova discussed the use of a joint gas corridor for transporting natural gas, as well as the possibility of attracting additional volumes of imported electricity.

Shmyhal noted that both countries face common challenges in the operation of power systems and ensuring natural gas supplies. Therefore, the development of alternative supply routes is important for their energy security.

"We are preparing a bilateral document that will consolidate further directions of our cooperation in the energy sector", - the minister informed.

Another area of negotiations is simplifying the crossing of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border. The parties considered the possibility of introducing joint control at checkpoints and agreed on further consultations regarding relevant procedures.

Such a mechanism aims to reduce the time for border formalities and facilitate the transportation of goods, including fuel, between the countries.

In addition, representatives of Ukraine and Moldova coordinated further steps to resolve the problematic situation on the Dniester River. Shmyhal did not provide details on specific measures.

Currently, it is about agreeing on directions of cooperation. The bilateral energy document is still being prepared, and specific dates for its signing and volumes of additional gas and electricity supplies have not been announced.
