Russian drone damaged 'Kyiv' shopping mall in Sumy: mall temporarily suspended operations
On Friday, October 16, a Russian strike drone hit the 'Kyiv' shopping and entertainment center in Sumy. The attack damaged the building and parked cars, injuring three people. The mall is temporarily closed, except for the 'Silpo' supermarket.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and Suspilne Sumy, citing local authorities and the mall administration.
According to the SES, the strike damaged the roof and facade of the commercial building. Rescuers surveyed the area, provided necessary assistance to citizens, and confirmed there were no fires.
According to clarified data from the Sumy regional prosecutor's office, there were three female victims aged 20, 21, and 39.
Suspilne correspondents reported the blast wave shattered over 40 windows. Cars near the building were also damaged.
Preliminary information from local authorities suggests the Russian forces used a 'Mолния' type drone, likely equipped with shrapnel for the attack.
The administration of the 'Kyiv' mall announced temporary suspension of operations. Meanwhile, the 'Silpo' supermarket within the building continues serving customers.
The mall was also closed on October 15. The next day, the administration confirmed the restrictions would continue. Restaurants and other stores will inform customers when they resume, they added.
