Zelensky responded to Trump's accusations of unwillingness to negotiate
Ukraine's priority remains ending the war with the Russian Federation through negotiations. The main obstacle on this path is the position of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who does not want dialogue. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated this at a briefing in Brussels, according to РБК-Україна .
The head of state was asked to react to Trump's statement, who called Zelensky "not the person one needs to deal with." The American leader also believes that it is "easier to reach an agreement" with Putin than with Zelensky.
Response to Trump
"Is it harder with me than with Putin? And with him it is easier than with Putin. With Trump for me. I have had several meetings with the President of the United States of America, and we always find topics for discussion and decision-making," - the president responded.
He pointed out that the Russians attacked Ukraine, occupied Ukrainian territories, and are killing Ukrainians. Therefore, Ukraine has an absolutely legitimate right to defend itself.
"Putin currently does not want negotiations in any format. He plays with words, claiming that they are supposedly 'ready for dialogue'. But this simply looks like a parody of a genuine desire to end the war. He does not want it to end," - Zelensky emphasized.
Threat of lifting new sanctions from the Russian Federation
He added that for the Kremlin leader, it is no longer enough to seize the entire Donbas. His "appetites" are growing because he found a loophole regarding new agreements with the USA and lifting sanctions.
"In my opinion, we cannot perceive these agreements on diesel fuel as something separate. Next there will be agreements on gas - I am absolutely sure of it. After the gas agreements, other sanctions may be lifted. Eventually it may reach the banking system, individuals, the chemical industry. And another risk I have mentioned is frozen assets," - Zelensky warned.
What Trump said
Recall that relations between Ukraine and the USA escalated after Washington signed a diesel deal with Moscow.
Trump then complained that Ukraine would not be able to conclude a deal with the Russian Federation because Zelensky is president. He also accused the President of Ukraine of not wanting to negotiate.
