Kyiv has prepared 78 reserve boiler houses with a total thermal capacity of more than 70 MW. The equipment is intended to provide heating for hospitals, support points and other important facilities in case of damage to main heat supply systems or emergencies.

The Kyiv City State Administration reported this on October 16, citing Dmytro Naumenko, Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Infrastructure.

According to him, the capital's reserve heat supply system includes 70 mobile diesel boiler houses and eight block-modular units. They are planned to be used for temporary heat supply to individual facilities if centralized heating is disrupted.

Naumenko also reported that the main preparatory work at heat energy complex facilities has been completed. In particular, preparation has covered about 400 boiler houses, including private and departmental ones, as well as almost 3,000 central heating points.

In addition, city utilities have fully completed testing of heat networks. Repairs to electrical switchboards continue: during 2026 such work is planned at 750 facilities.

Kyiv City State Administration emphasized that preparing Kyiv for the heating season involves not only creating reserve capacities but also developing response algorithms for various emergencies, including the consequences of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

Reserve boiler houses are not intended to fully replace centralized heating in the city. Their task is to maintain heat supply to individual socially important facilities during accidents and damage to main heat sources.

Earlier, on October 14, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the capital has also prepared about 700 generators of various capacities for heat and water supply facilities. In addition, the city has built three diesel power plants and a reserve water intake.

The development of reserve infrastructure has become especially relevant after recent Russian strikes on the capital's energy facilities, which caused interruptions in electricity and water supply.
