Emergency power outages introduced in several regions of Ukraine
On October 16, emergency power outages were introduced in several regions of Ukraine due to a difficult situation in the energy system after Russian shelling. Previously published hourly outage schedules in the affected regions are temporarily not in effect.
This was reported by the National Energy Company "Ukrenergo".
"Due to the difficult situation in the energy system caused by the consequences of Russian shelling, emergency power outages have been introduced in several regions of Ukraine," — says the company's message.
Ukrenergo emphasized that the previously announced outage schedules in regions where emergency restrictions are in effect are currently not being applied. This means that the duration of power absence may differ from the usual schedule.
Energy workers are working to restore stable electricity supply. Emergency outages are planned to be lifted immediately after the situation in the energy system stabilizes.
At the same time, in the new message, the company did not specify the full list of regions where emergency restrictions were introduced and did not name the timing of their cancellation.
Consequences of Russian attacks on energy
During October 16, Russian troops repeatedly attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure. In the morning, Ukrenergo reported new power outages in Kyiv, Kyiv, Volyn, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions.
In certain districts of Kyiv and Kyiv region, emergency outages were introduced as early as the first half of the day. Previously published electricity supply schedules also ceased to apply there.
Later, Russian drones attacked the main power grid that supplies electricity to Rivne region. As a result, large-scale outages occurred in Rivne and surrounding districts.
A difficult situation also persisted in Volyn. In Lutsk, energy workers continued to eliminate the consequences of night attacks, as a result of which power grids suffered serious damage.
New emergency restrictions indicate the continuing instability of the energy system after a series of Russian strikes. At the same time, the presence of outages in the listed regions does not mean that emergency schedules have been introduced simultaneously in all of them.
Ukrenergo warned that the situation may change. Residents are advised to follow messages from local electricity distribution system operators — oblenergo.
Consumers who have electricity were also urged to use it sparingly. Reducing the load on the energy system will help avoid additional restrictions and speed up the restoration of stable electricity supply.
