Ukrzaliznytsia has added a new feature to its mobile app that allows passengers to see in advance the statistics of evacuation stops and delays for a selected train. The update should help Ukrainians better plan their trips taking into account possible disruptions in railway traffic.

The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported this on October 16.

Now the app shows the average number of evacuation stops and delays for a specific train over the last 10 days.

The company explained that current train movement statistics are used for calculations. This approach allows passengers to assess how often the selected service has encountered forced stops and schedule deviations.

"We took average statistics for the last 10 days so that the data is as up-to-date as possible. However, we emphasize that this is not a guarantee or a promise, but reference information for predicting force majeure during travel," the company said.

What the new feature is for

Amid ongoing Russian attacks on railway infrastructure, Ukrainian trains sometimes have to stop for security reasons.

When the threat level is high, passengers can be temporarily evacuated from the carriages. Such stops, together with the need to change routes and bypass damaged sections, can affect the duration of the trip.

The new feature will make it possible to take these circumstances into account already at the stage of choosing a train. This is especially important for passengers planning connections, international trips, or travel with tight time constraints.

However, the statistics for the previous 10 days do not mean that the next service will necessarily face similar delays. Actual train movement depends on the current security situation and the condition of the railway infrastructure.

Number of delays reduced in October

Ukrzaliznytsia also reported that during October the company managed to significantly reduce the share of trains arriving late.

At the same time, railway workers stressed that the safety of passengers and staff remains the main priority, and therefore train traffic may be temporarily stopped if threats arise.

"So we choose honesty – and will regularly update this reference so that you can make an informed choice of route and service," the company noted.

In addition to the new mobile app feature, passengers can check current information about train delays on a special Ukrzaliznytsia online service.

Unlike the statistics for the last 10 days, this service is designed for tracking delays of current services. The company warns that the estimated arrival time may change during the journey.
