Russia increases pressure on the front line: General Staff reveals the situation in the directions
Since the beginning of the day on October 16, 208 combat clashes occurred between Ukrainian defenders and Russian troops on the front line. The enemy attacked most actively in the Pokrovske and Yuzhnoslobozhanske directions. In some areas, fighting continued into the evening.
This is stated in the operational update of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 22:00.
According to the Ukrainian command, during the day, the Russian army carried out 47 airstrikes, using 152 guided aerial bombs.
In addition, the enemy used 3,857 kamikaze drones and carried out 1,926 shellings of settlements and positions of Ukrainian military personnel.
26 Russian attacks repelled in the Pokrovske direction
One of the most tense areas of the front remains the Pokrovske direction in the Donetsk region.
During the day, Ukrainian units repelled 26 attacks by Russian troops here.
The enemy tried to advance in the areas of Toretsk, Hruzke, Vilne, Kucheriv Yar, Svitlodarsk, Dobropillia, Serhiivka, Molodetske, and Novopavlivka.
According to preliminary estimates of the General Staff, 58 Russian servicemen were eliminated in this direction during the day, and another 12 were wounded.
The Ukrainian military also reported the destruction of three vehicles and 58 enemy shelters.
In addition, four vehicles, three artillery systems, two units of special equipment, two drone control points, and 66 shelters of Russian troops were damaged.
The Defense Forces destroyed or suppressed 139 Russian drones of various types.

Intense fighting continues in Kharkiv region
In the Yuzhnoslobozhanske direction, 22 combat clashes were recorded near Starytsia, Mala Vovcha, Chuhunivka, and Radkivka.
As of 22:00, three combat clashes in this area were still ongoing.
In the North Slobozhanske direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions 11 times in the areas of Tovstodubove, Mala Slobidka, Buniachyn, Doroshivka, Neskuchne, Shpyl, Hrafske, Sadky, and Mohrytska.
One combat clash in this direction was also ongoing at the time of publication of the update.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled one attempt by Russian units to advance in the area of Kupiansk.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped the enemy's advance in the areas of Lyman, Zarichne, and Dibrova.
Situation in other directions
In the Kostiantynivka direction in the Donetsk region, 16 combat clashes occurred.
Russian troops attacked in the areas of Kostiantynivka, Dovha Balka, Novoselivka, Druzhkivka, Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, and Mykolaipillia. Two battles were ongoing.
In the Sloviansk direction, Ukrainian military repelled five enemy attacks in the areas of Ozerne, Pyskunivka, Kryva Luka, and Mykolaivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian units attempted one assault near Dibrova, which Ukrainian defenders successfully stopped.
11 Russian attacks were recorded in the Huliaipole direction in the Zaporizhzhia region. Fighting took place in the areas of Vozdvyzhivka, Rivne, Andriivka, Kopani, Charivne, and Yehorivka.
Seven more attempts by the enemy to advance were stopped in the Orikhiv direction — near Mala Tokmachka, Pavlivka, Stepnohirsk, and Plavni.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian servicemen repelled two attacks by Russian troops in the areas of Zaporizke and Komyshuvakha.
In the Prydniprovske direction, Russian troops did not conduct offensive actions during the day.
According to the General Staff, no significant changes in the situation were recorded in other areas of the front.
