The hryvnia weakened against the dollar and euro: the NBU raised the official exchange rate for Tuesday
For Tuesday, October 20, the National Bank has set the following official exchange rates:
- US dollar – 45.0013 UAH ( +0.1388 UAH to the official rate for Monday, October 19);
- euro – 50.5311 UAH ( +0.0334 UAH to the official rate for Monday, October 19).
The rates were set at 15:30 on October 19 and reflect the following trends:
1. On Monday, immediately after the start of trading on the interbank foreign exchange market, quotations of non-cash dollar began to rise, lasting until 13:00. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 44.9511 UAH – 8.5 kopecks higher than last Friday. By the close of trading, the average transaction price rose by another 5 kopecks, so the NBU raised the official rate for Tuesday by almost 14 kopecks. It is worth noting that today the National Bank made no attempts to stop the rise in quotations until they reached 45.10 UAH on the "bid" position.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market on Monday made sharp upward and downward movements in the range of 1.11799-1.12348 dollars. The market reacted very painfully to the mass protests that took place over the weekend in several European countries. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.12288 dollars – down 27.3 points from last Friday (1.12561 dollars). Despite this, in parallel with the increase in the official dollar rate, the NBU raised the official euro rate for Tuesday by 3.3 kopecks.
