Polish manufacturer Cersanit again suffered from a Russian attack
The Polish group Cersanit confirmed a repeated Russian attack on its plant in Zhytomyr region. The enterprise, specializing in the production of ceramic tiles and sanitary ware, sustained additional damage. Due to extensive destruction and threats to employee safety, resuming production is so far impossible.
Forbes Ukraine reported this on October 19, citing Cersanit CEO Zbislav Adam Kroviak Forbes Ukraine.
According to the company head, the plant in Zviahel district of Zhytomyr region was hit by two Russian drone attacks. The first strike occurred on the night of September 11–12, and the second on the night of October 15–16.
As a result of the shelling, production buildings and key components of process lines were severely damaged. The scale of destruction prevents the company from restoring normal operations at the facility.
Kroviak stressed that the problem is not only the damaged equipment. Frequent air raid sirens, the need for personnel evacuation, power supply interruptions, and voltage fluctuations make stable and safe production operation impossible.
During both attacks, employees who were on the premises were evacuated in time. According to the company, there were no fatalities or injuries among the staff.
Production halted, recovery timeline unknown
After the first Russian attack in September, Cersanit had already announced the cessation of production. At that time, the company reported serious damage to the equipment necessary for manufacturing ceramic tiles.
According to the official statement by Cersanit dated September 12, a preliminary assessment anticipated at least six months to restore production capacity.
However, after the second strike on October 16, the enterprise sustained additional damage. Updated recovery timelines and the final amount of damage have not yet been announced.
The company also did not disclose whether jobs will be temporarily reduced or employment conditions changed for employees due to the prolonged production halt.
One of the largest sanitary ware manufacturers in Ukraine
“Cersanit Invest” LLC is a subsidiary of the Polish Cersanit S.A. and one of the largest Ukrainian manufacturers of ceramic tiles and sanitary equipment.
The plant in Zviahel district has been operating since 2007. The enterprise produces tiles under the Cersanit and Opoczno brands, as well as ceramic and acrylic sanitary ware.
According to Forbes Ukraine, Cersanit is among the major employers in Zhytomyr region. Around 1,000 people are employed in the group’s Ukrainian divisions, including production, sales, marketing, and customer service.
The revenue of Cersanit Invest in 2025 exceeded UAH 3.7 billion.
The repeated damage to the enterprise creates additional challenges for the recovery of a large industrial facility with foreign capital. At the same time, Cersanit has not yet released information about possible supply disruptions to retail chains or changes in prices for its products in Ukraine.
