Russian drone hits operating room of Strazhesko Institute in Kyiv
Russian troops attacked the Mykola Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology in Kyiv again on October 20. This time the strike hit the operating room of the medical facility, which provides specialized care to patients with cardiovascular diseases from all over Ukraine.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi reported this.
According to him, the institute's building was hit by Russian strikes for the second time. In 2025, rooms on the fourth floor were damaged, and on October 20, 2026, the strike hit the sixth floor, where the operating room is located.

One patient was injured in the current attack. He received the necessary medical care. According to the Prime Minister, there were no deaths directly in the institute.
Koretskyi emphasized that the Strazhesko Institute is one of the country's important specialized medical facilities. Heart surgeries are performed there, patients are treated after heart attacks, and care is provided to people with severe cardiovascular diseases.
Information about the full extent of damage to medical equipment, the possibility of further use of the affected operating room, and possible changes in the institute's work has not yet been released.
The previous Russian attack on the institute occurred on September 28, 2025. Then, as a result of a missile strike, the fourth floor rooms were significantly damaged, and the third and fifth floors were partially affected. Two people died — a patient and a medical worker.
As previously reported by the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, after the strike two damaged departments were temporarily taken out of service, and patients were transferred to other units. At the same time, the institute continued to provide medical assistance.
In September 2026, the State Agency for Restoration reported that restoration work was being carried out in the damaged building. As a result of last year's attack, engineering networks, medical equipment, and internal premises were damaged. As of early September, the facility's readiness for completion of reconstruction exceeded 60%.
The new strike on the institute occurred amid ongoing Russian drone attacks on Kyiv on October 20. During the day, damage to civilian objects, including medical facilities, was recorded in the capital. Emergency services worked in several districts of the city.
