Norway expanded sanctions against Russia following the European Union
Norway has introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia, which corresponds to the 21st EU sanctions package, according to Європейська правда.
This is stated in a press release from the Norwegian government
The sanctions cover a number of measures and are directed, in particular, against the energy, financial and cryptocurrency sectors, as well as provide for enhanced measures against the "shadow fleet" and expanded restrictions on imports and exports.
This package of measures introduces broad restrictions, particularly in relation to banks, the oil sector, cryptocurrency services, the "shadow fleet" and the military-industrial complex of Russia.
The aim is to put additional pressure on the Russian economy and its ability to wage and finance the war against Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already made the necessary changes to the regulations to implement the EU sanctions in Norway, which will enter into force on October 21, 2026.
Recall that on July 23, the EU Council finally approved a new package of sanctions against Russia, which, as noted, "will deliver a powerful blow to Russian energy, financial services and cryptocurrencies".
This happened after certain countries blocked its adoption for various reasons, the last of which was Greece.
It is also worth noting that on August 7, the EU approved new sanctions lists against Russia, which was a response to massive strikes on Ukraine.
