US President Donald Trump again urged Ukraine to conclude a peace agreement with Russia. According to him, if Kyiv does not agree to a settlement of the war, the situation could significantly worsen.

The American leader said this on October 20 during a conversation with journalists in the Oval Office of the White House. His speech was broadcast by the White House press service.

Trump stressed that Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky should be interested in ending the war as soon as possible. At the same time, he warned of serious consequences in the absence of an agreement.

“Ukraine must want to end this war. Zelensky must want to end this war. If he does not want to, I think it will end very badly,” — the US president said.

According to Trump, the United States has provided Ukraine with enormous assistance, but has not received the expected results in return. He also said that European countries have spent significant funds on supporting Kyiv and have allegedly grown tired of the war's continuation.

“Ukraine must want to make a deal, because the United States has spent a fortune, Europe has also spent a fortune, and now Europe is tired of it,” — the American president said.

Trump again drew attention to the difference in size and population between Russia and Ukraine. He believes that continuing hostilities without an agreement will lead to a further deterioration of Kyiv's position.

“Russia is a very large country, they have a lot of people. Ukraine doesn't have as many people. And it's time to make a deal,” — he stated.

Responding to questions about Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and civilian deaths, Trump said that the bulk of losses, in his assessment, are military personnel. He did not provide specific supporting data.

The American president also once again recounted his own version of events at the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. According to him, Russian troops could have captured Kyiv in a few hours, but the command made mistakes in the advance of tank columns.

These assertions are Trump's assessments. In reality, the Russian offensive on Kyiv in 2022 ended in failure, after which Russian forces withdrew from Kyiv Oblast.

The new statement by the American president came amid talks between Ukraine, the US, and European partners in Oslo on October 20.

Following the meeting, Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of new peace proposals, which Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff intends to present to the Russian side on October 21.

The participants discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, a possible cessation of strikes on energy infrastructure, and other terms of a future peace agreement.

However, final agreements between Kyiv and Moscow are not yet in place. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is interested in ending the war as soon as possible, but requires reliable security guarantees that would prevent repeated Russian aggression.
