Shares of a Ukrainian agroholding plunged in Warsaw: the stock exchange suspended trading
Shares of the Ukrainian agroholding "Astarta" suffered a significant drop on the Warsaw Stock Exchange on October 20. During the trading session, quotes lost nearly a fifth of their value, which led to a temporary suspension of trading in the company's securities.
According to official data from the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW), trading began at 37.25 zlotys per share. During the day, the value of the shares fell to 30.05 zlotys. Forbes Ukraine reported on the temporary suspension of trading amid the drop in quotes.
By the close of the session, trading resumed and the shares partially recouped their losses. The final price was 32.10 zlotys, 14.06% lower than the previous close. Total trading volume for the day reached 5.19 million zlotys, and the number of shares traded amounted to almost 167 thousand.
As of the end of October 20, "Astarta's" market capitalization stood at 802.5 million zlotys. The company was among the leaders in declines on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Other Ukrainian agricultural companies also showed negative dynamics, in particular IMK.
The decline in quotes comes against the backdrop of deteriorating financial results for the agroholding. According to the company's official reporting, for the first half of 2026, "Astarta" incurred a net loss of €14.07 million, compared to €42.27 million in net profit for the same period last year.
At the same time, consolidated revenue remained almost unchanged at €226.47 million. However, operating profitability decreased significantly: EBITDA fell by 58% to €34.32 million. The company attributed this to an increase in production costs and a decline in prices for agricultural products.
The situation in the sugar segment remains particularly challenging, where revenue for the six months decreased by 10%. Meanwhile, the crop segment increased revenues by 27%, but this was not enough to offset the overall deterioration in financial indicators.
"Astarta" operates in crop production, sugar production, soybean processing, and dairy farming. The company's shares have been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2006.
The immediate causes of the large-scale sell-off on October 20 have not yet been established. The deterioration of financial results is an important context, but does not in itself prove that it caused the fall in prices.
