Russia attacked energy facilities in Kyiv and three regions: new power outages
On the night of October 21 and in the morning, Russian forces again struck Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Attacks targeted facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv, Volyn, and Odesa regions. Due to damage to energy equipment, some consumers were left without power supply, and in certain regions restrictions for households and industry continue to apply.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and NPC Ukrenergo.
In Volyn, as a result of Russian strikes, over 5,000 subscribers in Lutsk district were left without electricity. According to the regional military administration, an energy facility and other critical and civilian infrastructure were damaged in the region.
In particular, on the evening of October 20, a private enterprise and a critical infrastructure facility in Kovel community were hit. At night, the territory of one of the enterprises in Lutsk community was affected, where a fire destroyed several cars. Another critical infrastructure facility was also attacked.
According to the Volyn Regional Military Administration, over the past day, the Russians directed about 30 drones at the region, 12 of them at night. No fatalities or injuries were recorded as a result of these attacks.
Meanwhile, Ukrenergo reported that as of the morning of October 21, consumers remained without power in six regions: Kyiv, Odesa, Ternopil, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia.
The company clarified that the power supply interruptions are related to both new strikes on energy facilities and damage to the power system sustained over previous days. Where the security situation allows, repair crews have already begun emergency restoration work.
The Ministry of Energy added that in Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions, infrastructure restoration is ongoing after previous attacks. Power engineers have already managed to restore electricity supply to most of the disconnected consumers.
Due to equipment damage, in some regions power limitation schedules for industry and business will be in effect until the end of the day. For households and other categories of consumers, hourly outages of up to two stages are planned.
Ukrenergo explained that the restrictions are necessary to prevent overloading of equipment damaged by Russian shelling. Depending on the state of the power system, the extent and duration of outages may change.
Despite the restrictions, electricity consumption corresponds to seasonal levels. As of 09:30 on October 21, its level was 2.7% higher than at the same time the previous day.
At the same time, the daily maximum consumption on October 20 turned out to be 2.8% lower than Monday's figure. Ukrenergo attributes this to the forced restrictions imposed due to Russian strikes.
Power engineers call on Ukrainians to limit the use of powerful electrical appliances from 16:00 to 22:00. This is necessary to reduce the load on the damaged power system during evening hours.
Current outage schedules are recommended to be checked on official resources of electricity distribution system operators, as the situation may change depending on the consequences of new attacks and the progress of restoration work.
