Most Polish residents believe that the policy of U.S. President Donald Trump does not serve their country's interests. According to a new sociological study, 66.5% of respondents hold this opinion. At the same time, among supporters of Polish right-wing politicians, there are significant disagreements in assessing the actions of the American president.
On October 21, Rzeczpospolita reported citing the results of a survey conducted by the IBRiS research institute commissioned by the publication.
Sociologists asked Poles whether they consider Donald Trump's policy beneficial for Poland. The answers were distributed as follows:
- 36.9% — definitely does not serve the country's interests;
- 29.6% — rather does not serve;
- 15% — rather serves;
- 4.4% — definitely serves;
- 14.1% — found it difficult to answer.
Thus, only 19.4% of respondents positively assess the actions of the American president. The number of opponents of his policy is more than three times the number of supporters.
The most noticeable differences were found between voters of Polish political parties. Among supporters of the current ruling coalition, 87.2% of respondents negatively assess Trump's policy. Among voters of opposition parties, this figure is 49%, and among citizens without clear political preferences and those who do not participate in elections — 71.3%.
Among supporters of the center-right "Civic Coalition", "Third Way" and "New Left", the share of critics of the American president ranges from 80% to 93%.
At the same time, the electorate of the "Law and Justice" party is divided almost equally. In contrast, among voters of the "Confederation" negative assessments prevail.
Researchers recorded especially significant differences among supporters of different candidates in the 2025 Polish presidential election.
Among voters of right-wing politician Grzegorz Braun, 53.1% positively assess Trump's actions, while 46.9% hold the opposite view.
A similar, though less pronounced situation is observed among supporters of current Polish President Karol Nawrocki. 45.8% of them support the American leader's policy, while 37.2% consider it unfavorable for Polish interests.
Completely different results were obtained among voters of Sławomir Mentzen — one of the leaders of the right-wing "Confederation". Despite his belonging to the right-wing political camp, 85.1% of his supporters consider Trump's policy harmful to Poland. Only 12.6% gave a positive assessment.
Professor Adam Gendźwiłł from the University of Warsaw explains the differences by the heterogeneity of the Polish right-wing electorate. In his assessment, Braun attracts more radical voters, while Mentzen was able to gain support from some moderate citizens who see him as an alternative to traditional political parties.
Among survey participants who supported Adrian Zandberg and Magdalena Biejat in the presidential election, positive assessments of Trump's policy are practically absent. The actions of the American president are also perceived mostly negatively by supporters of Rafał Trzaskowski and Szymon Hołownia.
The study also revealed differences by socio-demographic characteristics. More favorably toward the American president are religious and practicing believers. The highest level of approval was recorded among citizens aged 60–69, and the lowest among young people.
Moreover, the higher the level of education of respondents, the more often they critically assess the policy of the US president. At the same time, researchers found no significant differences between the answers of men and women.
As Onet clarifies, the survey was conducted on October 16–17, 2026, using the CATI telephone interview method. 1,068 people participated in the study.
The results reflect the attitude of the surveyed citizens to American policy from the point of view of Polish national interests, not a general assessment of Trump's personality or attitude toward the United States.
