On the morning of October 22, Kyiv faced serious transport problems after a nighttime Russian attack that damaged the Southern Bridge and metro infrastructure. Traffic jams formed on several routes in the capital, large queues gathered at public transport stops, and the cost of individual taxi rides exceeded 1300 UAH.
The situation is reported by Novyny.LIVE, "Espreso" and local Telegram channels. The Kyiv City State Administration confirmed traffic restrictions on the Southern Bridge and changes in metro operations.
The most difficult public transport situation arose on the left bank of the capital. In particular, large queues of passengers formed near the "Osokorky" metro station as they tried to reach the right bank by alternative routes.
As reported by "Espreso", traffic jams occurred at exits towards the right-bank part of Kyiv. Some passengers decided to cross the Southern Bridge on foot or on electric scooters, as the metro across the crossing is temporarily not operating.
Meanwhile, car traffic on the Southern Bridge itself from left to right bank, according to journalists' observations, was maintained. However, in the opposite direction, the city authorities introduced a temporary ban on passage.
Amid transport restrictions, taxi fares increased. According to the "Kyiv INFO" channel, a trip from the "Osokorky" metro station to Independence Square in one of the services could cost 1325 UAH.
On published screenshots of the Bolt and Uklon apps, a significant difference between tariffs is visible. In particular, Bolt offered a trip at the standard tariff for about 649 UAH with an applied discount. In Uklon, the "Standard" tariff was 850 UAH, "Comfort" – 959 UAH, "Business" – 1076 UAH, and the premium Prime – 1325 UAH.
Thus, the amount over 1300 UAH applied to the premium category of cars, while regular trips on this route also remained expensive. The indicated amounts are offers from the services at the time of taking the screenshots, not fixed tariffs: the final cost depends on demand, availability of cars, route, and discounts.
The main cause of transport complications was the cessation of through train traffic on the Syretsko-Pecherska metro line. According to the Kyiv City State Administration, due to infrastructure damage on the Southern Bridge, trains temporarily operate only on two sections:
- "Syrets" – "Vydubychi";
- "Osokorky" – "Chervonyi Khutir".
Metro connection between the stations "Vydubychi" and "Osokorky" is absent. In addition, due to the use of a limited number of trains, service intervals may be increased.
For partial compensatory transportation of passengers, the city authorities strengthened bus routes No. 22 and No. 91. On route No. 22, the number of buses is increased from 10 to 12, with five of them running on a shortened route from Trostyanetska Street to the "Lybidska" metro station. On route No. 91, the number of vehicles is increased from three to five.
Despite the additional transport, morning queues and traffic jams indicate significant load on alternative routes between the banks of the Dnieper.
The Kyiv City State Administration reported that inspection of damaged metro structures and restoration work will continue. Exact terms for returning the "green" line to normal operation have not been announced yet.
We remind you that as a result of a massive Russian shelling of Kyiv on the evening of October 21 and the night of October 22, trading, transport and other infrastructure facilities were also damaged, including the "Epicentr" hypermarket.
