The Naftogaz Group has developed 24 scenarios for the 2026-2027 heating season, taking into account possible intensification of Russian attacks, different temperature conditions and volumes of own natural gas production. For each option, the company has prepared a separate action algorithm.
This was reported on October 22 by Naftogaz's press service following an online briefing by Acting CEO Serhiy Fedorenko with Ukrainian ambassadors and the participation of Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.
According to Fedorenko, the company has calculated various options for the development of the situation during the winter and determined the response procedure for each of them. The main factors that will affect the operation of gas infrastructure remain the intensity of shelling, weather conditions and the capabilities of Ukrainian gas production enterprises.
Naftogaz emphasizes that to get through the heating season, cooperation with international partners must be strengthened. First of all, this concerns restoration of damaged production facilities, additional protection of energy infrastructure, and supply of critical equipment and specialized machinery.
Another priority the company names is attracting financing for early contracting of additional natural gas volumes. Such a mechanism should ensure the ability to purchase the necessary resource before a potential shortage occurs due to cold weather or new damage to gas production capacities.
As an example of international support, Fedorenko cited Norway, which has already provided grant assistance to Naftogaz for purchasing additional gas. The company continues to work with foreign partners to raise funds for infrastructure restoration and ensuring stable fuel supplies.
Preparation for winter is taking place against the backdrop of significantly intensified Russian attacks on Naftogaz facilities. According to the company, since the beginning of 2026, its enterprises have suffered over 400 strikes – twice as many as in the entire previous year.
The main target of Russian troops remains gas production infrastructure. At the same time, about a hundred Ukrnafta auto-filling complexes have been damaged, which is over 10% of the company's retail network.
In particular, on October 21, a Russian drone hit a process unit at one of the gas production sites in Kharkiv region. Earlier, Kurs Ukrainy reported that due to the threat of repeated strikes, specialists could not immediately assess the extent of the damage.
At the same time, Ukraine fulfilled the basic gas storage plan for the heating season back in late August, forming reserves of 14.6 billion cubic meters. However, the presence of these reserves does not eliminate the risks associated with possible reduction of own production and infrastructure damage.
Naftogaz emphasizes that solutions and action algorithms are provided for all 24 scenarios. However, the company has not disclosed the detailed content of each scenario or forecasts regarding possible gas supply disruptions.
