On Friday, October 23, the National Bank set the following official rates: - US dollar – 45.0510 UAH (+0.0254 UAH to the official rate for Thursday, October 22); - euro – 50.4350 UAH (-0.1251 UAH to the official rate for Thursday, October 22).

Rates were set at 15:30 on October 22 and reflect the following trends:

1. In the first half of the trading session, trading took place in a narrow range of 45.04-45.055 UAH on the bid side. The average transaction price at 12:00 was 45.0518 UAH – 1.4 kopecks higher than on Wednesday. After 14:00, buyers became more active. All sell offers from exporters were bought out, and only the National Bank remained as a seller in the market. It continued to sell currency, but stopped holding the rate at one level, so quotes quickly went up and by the close rose to 45.17 UAH on the bid side. The average price hardly changed, so the NBU raised the official dollar rate for Friday by 2.5 kopecks.

2. The euro on the international FOREX market on Thursday first rose to 1.12561 dollars, and then fell below 1.12, to 1.11927 dollars, after the publication of more optimistic than expected US unemployment data. At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.11951 dollars – 34.1 points lower than on Wednesday (1.12292 dollars). Therefore, despite the increase in the official dollar rate, the NBU lowered the official euro rate for Friday by 12.5 kopecks.
