Estonia decided on October 22 to allocate an additional €10 million for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine under NATO's PURL initiative. The total volume of Estonian contributions to the program has reached €31 million.

This was announced by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna on the social network X.

The additional funds will be used to provide Ukraine with air defense systems and ammunition. According to the minister, this weaponry is necessary to protect Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure from Russian attacks.

Tsahkna emphasized that the approach of winter makes military assistance especially important. Russian strikes on energy facilities have already led to massive power outages affecting hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians.

The minister also stated that in 2026, Estonia's military support for Ukraine amounts to 0.28% of the country's gross domestic product. Tallinn intends to continue providing assistance and advocates for increasing the contributions of other allies.

Recall that on October 14, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced an additional contribution of €10 million during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The Estonian side has now reported the adoption of the relevant decision.

The PURL program (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) provides for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine using funds from European NATO countries and Canada. Through this mechanism, Ukraine receives, among other things, missiles for air defense, precision weapons, and ammunition.
