Russian forces used against Ukraine a new modification of the jet attack drone "Geran-5" called "Geran-5 K5-K". The updated version received an optical navigation system, as well as increased range, speed and flight altitude.
This was reported on 22 October by radio technology specialist Serhiy Beskrestnov, known as "Flash".
According to the expert, Russian forces have already used this modification before. It was first recorded about a month ago.
"Russia has again attacked us with a new modification of the "Geran-5" called "Geran-5 K5-K"", - wrote Beskrestnov.
The main feature of the updated weapon is the optical navigation system. It allows determining the route by images of the terrain, reducing dependence on satellite signal, which can be jammed by electronic warfare means.
Also, according to "Flash", the K5-K modification has longer flight range, develops higher speed and is capable of flying at higher altitude. The expert did not provide specific figures for these characteristics.
Earlier, on 5 October, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported the use by Russians of the autonomous electro-optical navigation system "Susanin". It matches terrain images with reference data in the onboard computer's memory. According to the GUR, similar equipment is also installed on the "Geran-5" version K5.
At the same time, there is currently no confirmed information about specific differences of the K5-K navigation equipment from the previously studied modification K5. The number of such devices used during the latest attack is also not specified.
Earlier, "Kurs Ukraine" reported about the modernization of Russian jet drones of the "Geran" family, in particular the installation of new navigation systems and engines.
