According to Norbert Röttgen, a politician from Germany's ruling Christian Democratic Union, U.S. President Donald Trump has sided with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the war in Ukraine, according to Європейська правда.
This is reported by Spiegel, as "European Pravda" writes.
Trump wants to "end the conflict with an agreement for which he is ready to make far-reaching concessions," Röttgen, who is deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, stated.
"The U.S. President is prepared to exert pressure on Ukraine, which he considers the weaker and more dependent side. Thus, he is acting against the interests of Ukraine and the Europeans and therefore is currently siding with Russia – unfortunately, this has to be acknowledged", Röttgen noted.
Trump will not be able to achieve peace, but he could lead to Ukraine's military defeat, the CDU foreign policy expert emphasized. "This would lead to an escalation of the war, since Putin would strengthen his imperialist ambitions," as well as his use of "war as a means" to realize them, he said.
"The war would also come closer to Germany", Röttgen added.
The stronger Trump pressures Ukraine, the more resolutely Europeans must support it, Röttgen urged.
He also expressed conviction that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk did not act independently when temporarily restricting the operation of the Starlink satellite internet service.
"Elon Musk is Trump's puppet on the Ukraine issue. When Trump demands turning Starlink on or off as a military-relevant infrastructure, Musk complies", Röttgen said.
"Trump uses him to pressure Ukraine – and, unfortunately, Europeans have still not managed to create an alternative to Starlink for Ukraine", he added.
It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump said the day before that he would talk to the owner of SpaceX Elon Musk if Ukraine has problems with Starlink communications.
The Wall Street Journal reported on October 22 that Trump called Musk and asked him to lift the restrictions. Trump himself refused to say whether he was the one who called the SpaceX owner.
