For more than 4,000 Ukrainians whose homes were damaged by Russian shelling, there is a prospect of returning home. The government has allocated UAH 187.6 million for the restoration of 33 apartment buildings in three regions of the country.

Most of the buildings are planned to be restored in Sumy. Funds will also be received by Kryvyi Rih and Kyiv Oblast. However, the completion dates for the repairs have not yet been announced.

The government's decision was announced on October 25 by Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

Where damaged buildings will be restored

Funding will be distributed among three regions affected by Russian attacks:

  • Sumy — restoration of 20 apartment buildings;
  • Kyiv Oblast — repair of 10 buildings;
  • Kryvyi Rih — restoration of 3 buildings.

According to the government's assessment, the implementation of these projects will allow more than 4,000 residents to return to their apartments.

The problem of damaged housing is particularly acute in Sumy. According to Suspilne, since the beginning of 2026, every fourth apartment building in the city has been damaged.

Where the money for restoration will come from

UAH 187.6 million will be allocated from the state Fund for Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression.

The funds will go to local budgets to finance the restoration of residential buildings damaged by Russian strikes.

It is important that this is not about monetary compensation to apartment owners, but about budgetary financing of repairs to specific apartment buildings.

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi emphasized that even with limited budget resources, the government continues to look for opportunities to restore housing.

When residents will be able to return home

The exact timing of completion of the works has not yet been announced. The published message also lacks a complete list of addresses of the 33 buildings and information on the amounts allocated for each object.

Therefore, the funding decision does not yet mean that repairs will start simultaneously in all buildings or that residents will be able to return in the coming weeks.

Information about the inclusion of a specific building in the restoration program can be clarified with local authorities. It is there that information about the progress of works and their completion dates should appear.

For thousands of families who lost the opportunity to live in their own apartments after Russian shelling, the new funding means another step towards restoring housing. When exactly people will be able to return will depend on the implementation of projects on the ground.
