The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine urged citizens not to spread unverified information about the evacuation of civilians from temporarily occupied Oleshky in Kherson Oblast. The warning came ahead of a humanitarian operation for which a local ceasefire is envisaged.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on October 26 in a statement.
The military urged Ukrainians not to publish or forward messages about routes, timing and locations of civilian movement and humanitarian convoys. The General Staff emphasized the need to use only official sources of information.
“Do not trust unverified reports, do not spread rumors regarding routes, timing and locations of movement of people and humanitarian convoys,” says the statement.
The Ukrainian military command confirmed that a local ceasefire regime is planned for the humanitarian operation in the Oleshky area. Its goal is to deliver aid to residents of the occupied city and prepare conditions for the safe departure of the civilian population.
The General Staff stressed that the Defense Forces are taking necessary measures to assist local residents and implement decisions aimed at ensuring their safety.
Earlier, Kurs.com.ua reported that the beginning of the local ceasefire is scheduled for October 27. The humanitarian mission itself should ensure the delivery of food, drinking water and medicine, as well as the possibility of evacuation for those wishing to leave the city.
According to White House estimates, between 1,700 and 2,000 civilians, mostly elderly people, remain in Oleshky. Among them are about 50 children. The population is experiencing severe shortages of food, medicine and clean water.
At the same time, the declaration of a silence regime does not yet mean that the humanitarian operation has already begun or that the parties are actually observing the ceasefire.
