Konotop in the Sumy region remains without electricity for the fourth day after massive Russian strikes in the night of October 24. A significant part of the city also has no gas supply, water is provided on a schedule, and critical infrastructure facilities operate on generators. Restoration deadlines remain unknown.
The situation was reported by the mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, on "Suspilne" and in his Telegram channel.
According to the mayor, as of the night of October 27, the city continued to be de-energized. Russian strikes damaged energy and civilian infrastructure, including educational institutions and residential buildings.
"Unfortunately, there are no forecasts for electricity. None at all", - said Semenikhin.
Due to the absence of electricity, some critical infrastructure facilities switched to backup power. In particular, the city hospital is running on generators. "Points of Invincibility" have been opened in the city, where residents can get necessary assistance.
Serious restrictions are also in place for water supply. After the Russian strikes, water intake points were stopped, so water is supplied to residents only during certain hours: from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.
Moreover, until electricity supply is restored, electric transport in Konotop has been suspended. This was reported by the municipal enterprise "Konotop Transport Administration".
The prolonged blackout also affects local business. As entrepreneurs told "Suspilne" journalists, some establishments continue to operate thanks to their own generators.
In particular, one local bakery uses backup power that allows operation of a small oven. At the same time, entrepreneurs are forced to limit equipment use and adapt production to available capacity.
Some private establishments also help residents cope with the outage. For instance, a local barbershop has organized the possibility to charge phones and get hot drinks. Its owners use generators and plan to purchase additional equipment for autonomous operation.
"Sumyoblenergo" reported that emergency restoration work after Russian strikes on energy facilities continues without interruption. At the same time, the speed of restoration depends on the security situation and the ability to work on damaged facilities.
Recall, in the night of October 24, Russian troops massively attacked the Konotop community with strike drones. Energy infrastructure, an educational institution, and the residential sector came under attack. The consequence of the attack was large-scale disruptions in electricity and other utilities.
Problems with electricity supply after Russian shelling also occurred in other communities of the Sumy region. In particular, in Putyvl, Shostka, and Krolevets communities, after prolonged power outages, schedules of disconnections were introduced.
