Ukraine and Moldova have concluded a five-year agreement on military-technical cooperation, which provides for the development of joint defense projects, technology exchange, modernization of military equipment, and strengthening of air defense. Special attention will be paid to the use of Ukrainian experience in combating Russian drones.
This was reported by the Ministries of Defense of Ukraine and Moldova following talks in Kyiv on October 26.
The document was signed by Defense Minister of Ukraine Yevhenii Khmara and his Moldovan counterpart Anatolie Nosatîi. The ceremony was attended by the prime ministers of both countries, Serhiy Koretskyi and Vasile Tofan.
The agreement creates a legal basis for joint projects in the field of defense production, repair and modernization of military equipment. It also provides for technology exchange, joint research and development, testing of military products, and training of specialists.
Other areas of cooperation include the development of cyber defense systems, military logistics, engineering support, and protection of critical infrastructure. The parties also plan to exchange experience in the procurement of weapons and military equipment.
One of the key areas will be the use of Ukrainian experience in countering drones and protecting airspace. According to Yevhenii Khmara, Ukraine is already providing consultations to Moldova on the development of air defense.
The minister emphasized that Ukrainian military personnel have gained practical knowledge about the use of modern weapon systems that cannot be obtained only through exercises. Kyiv is ready to share this experience with partners to enhance their defense capabilities.
The Moldovan side is particularly interested in Ukrainian technologies for detecting and intercepting drones. Prime Minister of Moldova Vasile Tofan noted that Ukraine has developed effective and relatively inexpensive solutions to combat drones, which may be useful for protecting Moldovan airspace.
According to him, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Moldova's airspace has been violated more than 100 times. On October 24 alone, five drones or fragments of aerial targets fell on the country's territory.
Defense Minister of Moldova Anatolie Nosatîi confirmed Chișinău's interest in Ukrainian developments and opportunities for cooperation with Ukraine's defense industry. He emphasized that the new agreement will allow the use of technologies and practical solutions tested by Ukrainian military in real combat conditions.
The agreement is concluded for five years with the possibility of automatic extension. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stressed that its implementation will not affect Moldova's neutral status enshrined in the country's constitution.
The parties have not yet disclosed the cost of future defense projects, specific volumes of technology transfer, or deadlines for the start of joint production. The new agreement primarily defines the directions and mechanisms for further cooperation between the two states.
