Number of marriages in Ukraine increased, every fourth one was concluded online
In the first half of 2026, 79,516 marriages were registered in Ukraine. This is 16% more than in the same period last year.
On average, about 13.3 thousand couples got married each month. Meanwhile, 30,488 marriages were registered online - almost 40% of the total. This was reported by "Opendatabot" citing data from the Ministry of Justice.
The popularity of remote marriage registration continues to grow. Currently, digital offices of state civil registry operate in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Lviv. These regions showed the largest increase in the number of marriages.
Where most marriages were registered
The most marriages in the first half of the year were recorded in Kyiv - 19,928. This is 38% more than in the corresponding period of 2025. In fact, every fourth marriage in Ukraine was registered in the capital.
In Dnipropetrovsk region, 15,545 couples got married. Over the year, the number of marriages in the region increased 2.7 times.
Third place went to Lviv region, where 8,909 marriages were registered - 1.9 times more than last year. Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Lviv regions together accounted for more than half of all marriages in the country.
At the same time, in other regions, the number of registered marriages decreased compared to the first half of last year.
Most popular wedding dates
One of the most popular dates was Valentine's Day - on February 14, 1,248 couples got married.
Even greater demand was for the mirror date 26.06.2026. On that day, 2,528 marriages were registered in Ukraine.
"Opendatabot" noted that Ukrainians traditionally marry more often in the second half of the year. In 2025, the number of marriages in the second half of the year was 41% higher than in the first.
Divorce rate slightly decreased
During January-June 2026, 12,175 couples divorced through civil registry offices. This is 4% less than in the same period last year.
The most such divorces were recorded:
- in Kyiv - 1,801;
- in Dnipropetrovsk region - 1,125;
- in Kyiv region - 898;
- in Odesa region - 880;
- in Kharkiv region - 874.
In Zhytomyr region, the number of divorces decreased by 20%, and in Poltava region - by 19%. Meanwhile, in Ternopil region, the indicator increased by 17%, in Zakarpattia - by 15%, and in Chernihiv region - by 11%.
Civil registry statistics do not include divorces through court. Only couples with no children and no property disputes can divorce through civil registry by mutual consent. On average, only every fourth divorce goes through state registration offices.
