The President of Armenia appointed Pashinyan as Prime Minister

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed a decree on Sunday appointing Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister, according to Eurointegration.

The decree was published on the presidential website, writes European Pravda.

"In accordance with Article 149, Part 1 of the Constitution: appoint Nikol Pashinyan to the post of Prime Minister," the decree states.

As a reminder, Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won the parliamentary elections on June 7 and secured a majority in the National Assembly.

Earlier on Sunday, the president signed Pashinyan's statement on the resignation of his government. This step was part of a procedure under which the cabinet of ministers, headed by the prime minister, must resign on the first day of the newly elected parliament's work.

Then the Civil Contract party nominated Pashinyan as a candidate for prime minister, and the president signed the corresponding decree on his appointment.

Pashinyan has headed the Armenian government since May 2018.

As a reminder, after the elections, Pashinyan claimed a "historic victory".
