Ukraine to be hit by heat wave up to +40 degrees (Updated)

Ukraine will be one of the hottest European countries during the next three days. Air temperatures may rise up to +40 degrees in some places. Natalia Didenko, a weather forecaster, reported this.

On Wednesday, August 5, the maximal air temperature in Ukraine is expected to reach +32 to +39 degrees. Thermometers could read around +40 in some areas.

No rainfall is expected during the day. Kyïv too will be dry and very hot on August 5, with temperatures rising to about +35.

According to Didenko, the intense heat wave will persist across Ukraine on August 6 and 7. A breakdown is first expected in western regions, as fresher air mass starts moving in on August 7.

In the evening on Friday, August 7, occasional thunderstorms may occur. Over August 8-9 cooler air will spread across most of Ukraine and temperatures will become more comfortable.

A powerful anticyclone that keeps hot air trapped and prevents it from dispersing has settled over Europe this early August. The hot spell is projected to shift gradually east, sweeping into the Balkans, eastern European countries and Ukraine.

Temperatures may hit +40 degrees in several European nations, and even +43 in some locations.

Previously, an expected surge in electricity usage due to continuous sizzling heat and more widespread use of air-conditioners across the country paved way to gear the power network to cope with peak loads.
