Heatwave in Czechia hits 41.5°C: dozens of stations break records

In Czechia on Tuesday, August 4, the air temperature rose to 41.5°C. The highest value was recorded at the meteorological station in the Bolevec district of Plzeň.

Half of the Czech stations that have been observing for at least 30 years either broke or tied their all-time maximum temperature records. In addition, three quarters of the stations set new records for August.

All 171 meteorological stations whose data were considered by specialists broke the maximum temperature record specifically for August 4. Over 40°C was recorded in 12 localities across the country.

For the first time in the history of observations, the temperature reached 40°C in Moravia. The same value was recorded for the first time in central Prague.

However, the 41.5°C measured in Plzeň did not become a new national record for Czechia. The absolute maximum in the country is 41.9°C — recorded on June 28, 2026 at the Doksany station in the Ústí nad Labem Region.
