Admission-2026: Ministry of Education named the most popular specialties and universities
The stage of submitting applications for admission to higher education institutions for bachelor's and medical master's programs has ended in Ukraine. As of August 3, applicants submitted 1,189,960 applications - 28% more than last year.
This is the highest figure in the last five admission campaigns, since 2022. More applications were recorded only in 2021 - 1.33 million. At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Science emphasizes that this refers to the number of applications, not applicants: one person could choose several universities and competitive offers.
Earlier, Current Ukraine reported that the 2026 admission campaign has already exceeded last year's result. The final data from the Ministry of Education and Science confirmed a 28% increase in the number of applications.
Lviv Polytechnic received the most applications - 59,676. This is 16,295, or 37.6%, more than in 2025. Second place went to Ivan Franko National University of Lviv - 46,601 applications, third - Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with 39,188 applications.
The top five most popular institutions also included Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv - 34,323 applications and the State University of Trade and Economics - 26,247. The ten leading universities accounted for almost 29% of all applications, and the top twenty - over 43%.
The most popular specialty was management - applicants submitted 105,301 applications. Compared to last year, the figure increased by 32.8%. Psychology took second place with 66,774 applications, philology third with 61,410.
The ten specialties with the highest number of applications also included:
- marketing - 49,345 applications;
- economics and international economic relations - 42,893;
- computer sciences - 40,755;
- finance, banking, insurance and stock market - 37,667;
- law - 33,447;
- secondary education - 31,265;
- cybersecurity and information protection - 30,363.
These ten specialties accounted for about 46% of all submitted applications.
At the same time, demand for civilian specialties that receive special state support increased by 33.4%. The number of applications for construction and civil engineering increased most noticeably - by 61.6%, electrical engineering - by 57.1%, automation and robotics - by 53.5%.
Recommendations for enrollment based on priority applications should be received by applicants no later than August 6. It is necessary to confirm the choice of study place and fulfill the university requirements by 18:00 on August 11. Enrollment on the budget and contract basis must take place no later than August 13.
The published statistics do not yet show the final distribution of students between universities, budget and contract forms of education. These data will be known after the confirmation of the study place and completion of enrollment.
