Klitschko assessed the readiness of the capital's energy facilities for winter
The plan for restoring Kyiv's energy facilities damaged by Russian attacks is 65% complete. The city authorities expect to finish the necessary amount of work before the start of the 2026/2027 heating season, said the capital's mayor Vitali Klitschko.
According to him, restoring the damaged infrastructure is a top priority in preparing Kyiv for winter. The volume of work remains significant due to large-scale destruction, but the Kyiv City State Administration plans to carry out the planned measures before the cold weather arrives.
The work is distributed between the city and the state Restoration Agency. Kyiv is independently responsible for 16 elements of the energy infrastructure. The average readiness level at these facilities is 66%.
The Restoration Agency is carrying out work on 26 more elements. Thus, the restoration measures cover a total of 42 elements of the capital's energy infrastructure. Klitschko did not specify the readiness level of the facilities handled by the agency.
A separate part of the city's preparation for the heating season is the creation of second-level engineering protection. The total cost of the planned measures is 6.6 billion hryvnias. The mayor did not provide details on the distribution of funding between city and state budgets.
In parallel, Kyiv is developing backup energy supply sources. In June, four cogeneration units with a total capacity of 18 MW were installed at one of the critical infrastructure facilities. They allow simultaneous production of electricity and heat, as well as feeding electricity into Ukraine's unified power grid.
Previously, the city authorities reported that in preparation for winter they were considering restoring damaged infrastructure, installing additional capacities, and creating alternative heat and power supply sources in certain districts. These measures should reduce the dependence of critical facilities on the centralized system in the event of new attacks and accidents.
At the same time, Klitschko did not name the exact completion date of the repairs and did not specify which energy facilities are on the list. Information about their locations and technical characteristics is not disclosed for security reasons.
