Macron demanded that Russia be held accountable for the strike on Kyiv

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the massive Russian strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region, carried out on the night of August 5. He stated that Russia once again deliberately targeted civilians.

“This policy of terror is unacceptable,” — wrote the French president on social network X.

According to Macron, each new attack confirms the need to hold Russia accountable for its aggression and the crimes committed. The French leader stressed that Ukraine’s allies must not succumb to fatigue or intimidation.

Macron also announced further intensification of pressure on Moscow. The European Union and its partners intend to impose new sanctions and increase military support for Ukraine so that it can defend its territory and civilian population.

During the night attack, Russian forces used 24 ballistic missiles, four more missiles of other types, and 115 drones. Ukrainian air defense destroyed or suppressed 98 drones, but failed to intercept the ballistic missiles.

According to the latest data, 17 people were killed in Kyiv and the region, and another 44 were injured. The strikes targeted, among others, warehouses of civilian enterprises, logistics facilities, and railway infrastructure. Rescue operations at the sites of destruction continued throughout the day.
